Blue Slate Turkeys, which reproduce naturally, are one variety with two genotypes that correspond to chicken genotypes known as blue splash and self blue. The blue splash genotype birds have a few specks of black scattered over the slate or ashy blue feathers. The males with self blue genotypes have solid feathers, which are dull, grayish blue; and the hens have lighter, bluish gray plumage. Their shanks and toes are pink. The beak is horn in color; the eyes are dark brown, and the beard is black.
