Feather Legged Cuckoo Marans

Feather Legged Cuckoo Marans originated in France where most of the Marans are feather legged. All of the plumage of this variety is cuckoo with each feather marked across with black and white bands. This plumage pattern is the result of the action of the dominant, sex linked Barred (B) gene. When the males are homozygous for the Barred gene (BB), their color is lighter than that of the hemizygous (B-) females because the Barred gene produces the white bars. The outstanding characteristic of Marans, which has attracted many buyers, is the production of extremely dark brown or rich looking chocolate eggs.

Feather Legged Cuckoo Marans are available from Mid-Feburary thru the first week of June.

Standard weights at maturity are males-7 to 8 lbs. and hens-6 to 7 lbs.
